TIP
Page Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit...The Windows 7 Enterprise operating system is available to customers with Microsoft Software Assurance.
With Windows 7 Enterprise, you can take advantage of all the features available in Windows 7 Professional and many more that are only available in Windows 7 Enterprise.
These features include:
DirectAccess - Allows mobile users to easily and securely access corporate networks without the need for a VPN. The IT department can also manage remote computers more efficiently with Group Policy and distribute software updates whenever a mobile computer is connected to the Internet, even when the user is not logged in. DirectAccess can also be used to authenticate user identities using multi-factor authentication, such as with smartcards. IT administrators can define which parts of the instranet users can access using DirectAccess.
BitLocker and BitLocker To Go - Helps protect data on computers and portable drives. With central management, encryption can be enforced and recovery keys backed up. BitLocker Drive Encryption helps protect sensitive data from unauthorized access in the event of theft, loss, or improperly cleaned disposed computers. BitLocker To Go can encrypt USB storage devices, which can then be accessed by entering a password. Administrators can enforce protection for all removable storage devices that users want to write to, while leaving reads enabled from unencrypted storage devices. It is also possible to use password policies or, for example, smart card usage.
BranchCache - Reduces the time it takes in branch offices to download files stored in the headquarters. When the IT department enables BranchCache, copies of remote files accessed by users are cached in the branch office. When another user wants to download the same file, they can access it almost instantly because it will be downloaded from the local cache without using an Internet connection to the headquarters. BranchCache only gives users access to files they have rights to. It will also always verify that it is the latest version of the file.
AppLocker - Determines what software can run on the computer based on centrally managed policies. IT professionals can prohibit inappropriate software from running while allowing the applications, installation files and scripts that users need. Although AppLocker is not a traditional security feature, it can be incorporated into a security strategy and have a standardized application environment. With well-chosen rules, IT professionals can deploy updates for enabled applications without having to create a new rule for each application.
Federated Search - Helps users search for information in remote repositories, including SharePoint sites, directly from Windows Explorer and the Start menu. Libraries bring a new way to access documents in different folders or even on different computers from a single location. Using federated search, users can choose which locations they want to search, or the IT department can set them up. The results are then displayed in Windows Explorer just like local files, including previews.
Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) enhancements - Improved user experience in VDI scenarios with multi-monitor and microphone support. Also new is support for booting from a VHD on a physical machine.
