Gothic

Gothic 1 is an RPG game that was released in 2001. It is the first installment of the Gothic series, developed by the German studio Piranha Bytes.

Humans are at war with orcs. The royal empire of Myrtana only resists thanks to weapons made of magical ore that work on the orcs. However, King Rhobar II, in desperate need of more and more ore, decides to send all the convicted criminals from across the realm to the island of Khorinis to mine magic ore for him.

To ensure that the convicts can never escape, he commissions the most powerful mages in the land to create a magical barrier over the mines. However, the situation gets out of hand and the barrier spreads to the entire so-called Colony, which makes up about a third of the island of Khorinis.

All of the King's followers are so surprised by the new Barrier that they pay no attention to the convicts who stage a coup and take over the Colony. The King makes a deal with the convicts to mine ore in exchange for what the people of the Colony need.

Into all of this comes a player. Another convict to be thrown behind the Barrier. At the start, he is given a single task - to deliver a letter to the High Mage of Fire. What happens after that - you won't find out until the game. And there's a lot to look forward to!
