The computer can move the mines during the game depending on the difficulty setting. The result is therefore not dependent on chance. If at the end of the game you are left with two squares and one of them has a mine and you don't know which one, then in both cases you won't explode. In classic mines you would have a 50% chance of exploding, which you probably wouldn't like.
