Japanese Chess for Beginners is a two-player game with eight white and eight black dice on an 8 x 8 board. On the sides of the dice are the rook, bishop, knight and pawn symbols. The symbol on the top side determines the strength of the die, not its mobility.

The player whose opponent has only three dice left on the board wins. The game ends in a draw if both players make ten moves without skipping.
