UPX manager

To use it, you need to own the excellent UPX compression tool, which can compress executable exe files and significantly reduce their final size, while the compressed file is up to 60% smaller and still as functional as before the actual compression.

The manager for UPX is very simple to use and can be used even by a beginner. The first time you run the program, you will be prompted to find the UPX compressor itself on your PC. The manager will remember the path to it, only if the path is invalid, it will prompt you again. In the manager, you can choose a compression level that has values from 1 to 9 and Best. You locate the file you intend to compress or decompress and press the button for the selected function. For quick compression, just double-click on the selected file. It is also possible to test if the file is already compressed and have information about the compression force displayed.

In the manager settings the path to the UPX program itself is stored, however this cannot be changed, if it is invalid the manager will detect this and prompt you to re-enter it. What can be changed however are the association fields, these are actually the file types that the manager will display and allow you to work with. By default it is possible to compress/decompress files like com, exe, scr. I also use UPX to compress OCX libraries and other binary files. You need to confirm the new settings of the association regions by pressing the "Save" button. The UPX program is mainly used by programmers but it can be useful for anyone who needs to reduce the size of executable files for any reason.
