Technika zajímavě aneb mechanika bez vzorečků

The Technology in an Interesting Way programme should awaken the interest of schoolchildren in the things around us. It deals with the workings of many machines. We have focused on simple mechanisms and, for more complex machines, on their mechanical parts. The programme should mainly stimulate interest in physics, which is often unpopular at school because of the number of formulae and calculations. We have tried to avoid patterns in this title. Although there are references to "physical" principles in the machine descriptions, we have tried to avoid calculations in explaining them. Most often we refer to the principles of simple machines and gears of various types. Here schoolchildren can imprint a number of laws on their minds without realising that it is all physics that surrounds us on all sides. However, the programme need not only serve school children. The detailed photographs and animations will certainly be useful for high school students and apprentices in relevant fields. We will walk through the car workshop, spinning mill, weaving mill, printing shop, carpentry, plumbing, upholstery, also the locksmith and machine shop, we will disassemble a bicycle into its parts. We will visit plumbers, learn to cut threads, weld plastic, learn the principles of various valves. We will get acquainted with some mechanically interesting measuring instruments. We will learn how to measure lengths with a caliper, micrometer, or the contents of surfaces with a little-known planimeter. Those interested in computing will find mechanical parts of computers taken apart.
