Vanessa is the sole heiress of Abraham Van Helsing - a member of the secret Order of Light whose goal is to save world peace. But now the seals that have protected the mysterious gateway behind which an ancient evil lurks have been stolen.

At the invitation of Archbishop Benedict - the head of the Order - Vanessa travels to Italy. With the help of messages and clues left to her by her grandfather Abraham, she attempts to open the gates to other worlds and times and throws herself into the search for the lost artefacts. Vanessa also finally uncovers the background to her mysterious visions and discovers who the mysterious spirit is that has been appearing to her from time to time.
