LCD Tester

This simple C# program can be used to test an LCD panel before you buy it, or to see if the panel you have on your desk is of good quality.

After running the program, you can choose from several tests by selecting different tabs. The description of each test is given directly in the program, however I will give a brief list:

• subjective response time test - response time of LCD panels is an age-old problem. Here you can subjectively compare two monitors that you have side by side if possible. Of course, you cannot measure an objective response time value using software. Manufacturers usually give an average response time value, but for some background-ambient combinations this can go up to 100 ms.
• test for defective subpixels - Manufacturers usually guarantee a few defective subpixels (we cannot talk about pixels here because one pixel is made up of three defective subpixels and that is a complaint).
• Grayscale - in this test you can test how the monitor displays shades of grey. Lesser quality monitors cannot display a higher number of shades and the bars start to blend. In addition, the uniformity of the backlighting is quite nice to see.
• resolution test - here you can test how the LCD panel displays text at a non-native resolution. Some monitors have a special feature to smooth the image at non-native resolutions.

The program is still under development and I will add more tests. The plan is to test sharpness and maybe even geometry, although this should be perfect for LCDs:).
