The Icon Restore freeware program allows you to easily save the position of icons on your desktop and restore them whenever you need them.

This application installs Microsoft's LAYOUT.DLL (along with the necessary registry entries), and with this, when you right-click on any icon on the desktop, two more menu items will appear: Save Desktop Icon Layout and Restore Desktop Icon Layout.
