VLC Media Player

VLC (VideoLAN Client) is a player that supports many A/V formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...), can play DVD, VCD and various stream protocols. Moreover, it runs on many OS (Windows, MAC, Linux, Zaurus, BeOS, ...).

The great advantage of VLC Media player is that it is not bound to codecs (decoders of various formats) installed on the system - it is self-contained in this respect and includes decoding of the main supported formats. As a result, it can also help those who are not well served by conventional players that depend on codecs on the system.

VLC Media player can also serve as a streaming server, or for recording broadcast shows from your TV card.
