VeraCrypt

VeraCrypt is a disk encryption program based on TrueCrypt. It adds enhanced security to the algorithms it uses for the system, making it immune to new developments in brute-force attacks. It also addresses many of the weaknesses and security issues found in TrueCrypt. This increased security adds some delay to only opening encrypted partitions without any performance impact on the application's usage phase. For example, where TrueCrypt uses 1000 iterations of PBKDF2 to partition the encryption system VeraCrypt uses 327661. A encrypted volume, TrueCrypt uses at most 2000 iterations while VeraCrypt uses 500,000. the VeraCrypt storage format is inconsistent with the TrueCrypt format.
