What does SCADA/HMI mean?

SCADA stands for Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition. Thus, SCADA is not a full-fledged control system, but rather focuses on the supervisor (e.g. dispatcher) level. As a rule, it is software operating on top of a real control system based e.g. on PLC (programmable logic controller) or other HW devices. HMI stands for Human Machine Interface, i.e. the interface between man and machine.
