Klavaro is another free typing tutorial. We felt disappointed with the programs available, which tend to focus only on certain keyboard layouts. Klavaro tries to be keyboard and language independent, saving memory and time (and money).
Characteristics of the latest version
Main features are:
- Internationalization: Czech, Chinese, English, Basque, Bengali, Esperanto, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Ukrainian, Urdu and Vietnamese.
- Ready to use these keyboard layouts:
- "qwerty" (AR; BR; BR_abnt2; CZ; EL; EO; ES; EU; HE; IT; JP; KK; NB; PT; SE; TR; UK; UR_crulp; UR_nla; US)
- Dvorak (BR; DE_neo2; EO; FR; FR_bépo; TR; UK; US; US_BR; US_ES; US_SE)
- "qwertz" (CZ; DE; HU)
- "azerty" (FR; FR_ibook; BE)
- "jtsuken" (RU; RU_typewriter; UA)
- "colemak" (US)
- AlphaGrip5 (US)
- Keyboard Layout Editor: use it to set the key placement and save it in a simple text file. This way, if your keyboard is not shown above, you can create one. If you need to create one, please contact us.
- Basic Course: The basic course type is used to memorize the key locations on the keyboard. It is created so that it is not dependent on the keyboard layout. Random sequences of characters are created for practice.
- Adaptation Exercises: these exercises use all the characters in random order, so they are used to practice the entire keyboard. The exercise is named adaptability because it develops the ability to adapt your dexterity to any type of foreign words that may appear in the text.
- Speed Exercise: It is easy to achieve great typing speed when we know the text and the words come from our native language. That is why these exercises focus on speed. If your language is not supported by the app, you can still use any text from any language to add the words contained in it.
- Fluency Exercises: In these exercises, we work with complete paragraphs, with well-ordered sentences. Typing errors are unacceptable: the user must correct them using the backspace key, otherwise they cannot continue. In particular, the rhythm of the writing is emphasized; it must be as consistent as possible. As with the speed exercise, you can choose any text file, regardless of the language chosen.
- Progress Graphs: At the end of each exercise, some characteristic of your skills is stored and is also displayed in a graph. So you can easily view your progress (or deterioration).
- Clean GUI: when you are learning to write correctly, you need to pay attention to the exercises. So it's no good having a dozen speed meters, error meters, time meters, etc; nor a virtual keyboard displayed in front of the student: he/she must learn to remember the key locations by touch, not visually. This is why Klavar's interface is so simple and will remain so throughout its use.
- and other features.
