Free Hearing Test

Free Hearing Test is software that allows you to easily test and visualize your sensitivity to a range of human-audible frequencies. It allows playback of audio signals from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz.

The application generates data representing sine sound waves and sends it to your computer's audio system. The sound then comes out of your headphones or speakers. Data points representing frequencies and amplitudes (i.e. volume) are recorded in a table (audiogram). The audiogram makes it easier to visualize your hearing and identify areas of reduced sensitivity.

Speech, ranges from 250 Hz to 3000 Hz with some sounds (S, T, F, Sh) approaching 7-8,000 Hz. Healthy, young people can normally hear all frequencies between 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz. As we age, our sensitivity to high frequencies decreases. For example, middle-aged men generally cannot hear sounds above 14,000 Hz, and middle-aged women generally cannot hear sounds above 16,000 Hz.
