Lock Dir

Lock Dir is a tool for locking and unlocking folders and files only in Windows 95, 98 and ME. It uses ASCII characters that are not supported by these Windows. Nothing can be done with a locked folder or file, it cannot be copied, renamed, deleted or opened. Locking is based on a code you enter. ASCII characters are generated from it (see table) and these are inserted before the folder or file name - renaming is done via MS-DOS. If you then want to unlock the folder or file, you can't do it without the code (at least not in Windows 95, 98 and ME). That's why it's important to remember the code, and it's also a good idea to use only one or two, rather than a different one for each folder. The program also has a function to search for locked folders and files - just in case you forget some. Please read the release notes carefully before using the program (they appear when you first start it).
